I am hearing words that the decision to withdraw the extra bin collections was made by the previous administration.
The people who say such things don't know what they are talking about:
To quote from here:
http://www.reading.gov.uk/councilanddemocracy/committee/decisionbook/
"Matters of decision-making can be decided in one of three ways:
By decision of full Council
By decision of Cabinet
By officer delegation in consultation with the Lead Councillor AND recorded in the Decision Book"
This decision affects bin collections for some 20,000 people. If it happened under the previous administration, it will either be in Full Council papers, Cabinet papers, or the Decision Book.
You can see for yourself that the decision doesn't appear anywhere.
The Council's press office and the Reading Chronicle need to get their facts straight, frankly.
What is clear is that the decision now rests with the current Lead Councillor: they need to restore these collections, right now.
